The main objective of this project to restore as far as possible the Korle Lagoon to its former state in which marine life was abundant and to provide substantial improvements to Accra's drainage and flooding problems by way of ensuring proper flood water conveyance to the sea. Other objectives to be attained include the following: - The restoration of the lagoon towards sustainable natural depths. - The improvement of the drainage system in the project area to reduce flooding risk within acceptable limits. - The creation of an attractive area in and around the lagoon (removal of waste disposal, - landscaping of surroundings, construction of bank protection - Diversion of all wastewater from the lagoon in an environmentally sound manner (sea outfall). - Avoidance of future rapid siltation of the lagoon. Safeguarding of the quality of the area in the long term. |
